Primary School and Junior Secondary School girls in Kericho County have benefited from the government’s free sanitary towels, through the office of the Women Member of National Assembly.

The free sanitary pads is a great boost for the students, as most of the girls have not been affording the product, making them miss classes for some days in a month.

A total of 8,544 girls across the 90 schools in Kipkelion East constituency benefited with 34,176 sanitary towels, while girls in Belgut Constituency got 27,336. Ainamoi (27,488), Kipkelion West (29,532) and Bureti (140,924).

Speaking while launching the distribution at Barotion Primary School in Kipkelion East, Kericho County, the WMNA Beatrice Kemei said the move is aimed at ensuring that no girl misses classes during her menstruation.

She said the greatest challenge among the school girls is lack of sanitary towels and they had to push fro free pads from the government as their NGAAF allocation was not enough to cater for it.

The MP also called on the government to provide adequate supply of water in schools to improve on hygiene.

Kemei said as County MPs, they want to ensure that the stigma surrounding menstruation becomes a thing of the past through access to quality menstruation products, period education and friendly environment.
