Actor Johnny Depp has decided to donate all the money that he got as settlement from his ex wife Amber Heard. Depp was awarded one million Dollars from ex-wife Amber Heard after winning their highly publicized defamation trial last year.

The People Magazine says that Depp has decided to donate the entire amount to five charities, with each receiving 200,000 dollars. The said charities are Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society and Amazonia Fund Alliance.

Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard in March 2019 claiming 50 million dollars in damages, after the Washington Post published an article she wrote about being the victim of domestic violence. She did not mention Depp’s name in the article but it came out at a time when their contentious divorce in 2016 was still making headlines.

In June last year the jury sided with Depp and the 60-year-old actor was awarded 10 million dollars in compensatory damages and a further 5 million dollars in punitive damages. Punitive damages were later reduced to 350 000 dollars in comliance with the state’s statutory cap.

Depp was also found liable by the same jury that awarded him victory in the case, citing comments made by Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, referring to Heard’s claims as a “hoax”. He was also ordered to pay 2 million dollars in compensatory damages.
