President Ruto presides over swearing-in of new CDF, top KDF command

President William Ruto has presiding over the swearing-in of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Muriu Kahariri and other top command of Kenya Defence Forces at State House, Nairobi.

The President Thursday promoted Lieutenant General Charles Kahariri to the rank of General and appointed him the new CDF.

Others being sworn-in alongside General Kahariri are Major General John Mugaravai Omenda who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Vice Chief of the Defence Forces who previously served as the Kenya Air Force Commander.

Also Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed was appointed the Kenya Air Force Commander while Major General Paul Owuor Otieno was posted to Kenya Navy and appointed Commander.

Major General Thomas Njoroge Ng’ang’a, Major General Nyamu Githinji, Major General Jattani Kampare Gula, Major General George Okumu as well as Brigadier Samuel Kosgei Kipkorir.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, President Ruto said that the Kenya Defence Forces has a solid history of loyalty, commitment and professionalism.

Adding that: “As the Chief of Defence Forces and the top command of KDF take charge, we urge them to serve our country with diligence and dedication. May the new leadership exercise authority with accountability.”

The CDF position fell vacant following the demise of the former Chief of Defense Forces the late General Francis Ogolla in a helicopter crash at Elgeyo Marakwet on 18th of April 2024 alongside nine others.
