Search for 6 missing after boat capsizes in Baringo continues

The search for six people missing after a boat capsized on Sunday in Lake Baringo is underway.

A multi-agency response team, including the Kenya Red Cross, community members, and marine guards, is currently in action.

One person has been confirmed dead while 16 have been rescued.

Confirming the incident, Baringo County Police Commander Julius Kiragu said 23 church members mostly youth from Revival Church were en route to Kokwa Island in Lake Baringo from Salabani sub-locations.

Kiragu said on reaching midway the boat which was overloaded capsized due to strong tides at the lake.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the boat which should carry a capacity of eight people capsized due to overloading.
