Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale says he will handover Uhuru Park to Nairobi County Government on Thursday following near completion of renovations.
Responding to questions by Senators, CS Duale said less than 8 per cent of pending works; water connection and drainage works.
“I’m handing over Uhuru Park to Nairobi County Gov’t tomorrow morning at 9:00 am, running parks is not our core mandate. However, the ministry has been allowing the public to use this facility on occasions and functions,” he told the Senators on Wednesday.
Uhuru Park has been undergoing renovations since September 2021 under the Kenya Defence Forces through the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in a bid to transform them to international park standards.
Nairobi County Government will be tasked with running Uhuru Park and Central Park recreation centres once renovations are complete.
