Most parts of the country will continue to record heavy downpours this week, the latest warning by the weatherman shows.

The Kenya Meteorological Department director, David Gikungu, issued a red alert for heavy rains affecting most parts of the country.

Gikungu said the downpour is likely to intensify from Monday to Thursday.

“Heavy downpours expected in the Coastal region, Central, Highlands West of Rift Valley, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, South-eastern lowlands, & North-eastern” KMD said.

Floods have already displaced thousands of people, and this week could be worse, especially in areas around Lake Victoria which will receive more than 40mm of rain.

Several households are marooned in Tana River where evacuation efforts by Kenya Red Cross are underway.

The forecast covers 43 counties.
