The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has announced the closure of the Nairobi-Garissa road rendered impassable by the ongoing heavy rains and floods in various parts of the country.
Rising water levels at Tana River have affected the key road which is flooded at Arer Area, between Bangaley and Madogo.
“The flooding is as a result of the ongoing heavy rains which occurred last night and has resulted in rising water levels along the entire stretch. The flooding at Arer has compromised the road and diversion that was previously in use” said the KeNHA in a statement.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and avoid the route until the water levels subside and the damaged section is reinstated.
“The Authority staff are on site ready to deal with the washout immediately after the water subsides. We urge road users to be cautious and avoid driving in the floodwater for their safety”.
This is not the first time traffic flow has been disrupted by flooding and heavy siltation.
The country has in the last week witnessed heavy rains that are expected to continue.
