Morocco Football Federation opens new football museum

The government of Morocco has unveiled the Moroccan Football Museum at the headquarters of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) in Maâmoura (near Salé).

The opening ceremony which was led by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch was also attended by Mr. Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sport, Mr. Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mr. Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the FRMF and Mr. Mehdi Qotbi, President of the National Foundation of Museums.


The ceremony was also attended by a pleiade of national football stars from all generations, sports actors and members of the FRMF steering committee.

The creation of the museum, which covers 2100 m2, reflects the care that HM King Mohammed VI has for the historical, civilizational and sporting heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Lakjaa said in a press statement that the inauguration of the Moroccan Football Museum, carried out in partnership with the National Foundation of Museums, constitutes “a contribution to the preservation of national football memory and the enhancement of its historical capital”.

The importance of creating a museum that lists the memory and exhibits the history of Moroccan football and its legends, clubs and infrastructures, is unanimously recognized, underlined the official.

Stating that this museum celebrates a glorious past and testifies to a present rich in performances that make the Moroccan public proud, he welcomed this initiative which commemorates this precious heritage and transfers it to younger generations.

For his part, the curator of the Moroccan Football Museum, Zaid Ouakrim, said in a similar statement that the museum’s permanent exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the rich history and highlights of Moroccan football, through six spaces.


He said that the first space highlights “The enlightened royal vision” and reveals a unique perspective, enshrined by three kings, who have made football a distinguished means of expression for the Moroccan people.

He noted that the other components address important topics in accordance with a comprehensive vision within the framework of exceptional spaces, namely the land of pioneers, the land of excellence, the gallery of celebrities, a hospitable land and the land of passion.

Regarding the temporary exhibition, the official said that it allows visitors to discover the journeys of national teams and clubs.

This museum sheds light on the history of national football since 1906, by exhibiting photographs and football trophies in such a way as to allow everyone to learn about the achievements of Moroccan players.
