Kwale Head of Treasury Vincent Chirima Mbito has been charged with fresh corruption related to Ksh 3 million tender from the County.
The accused was charged before Chief, Hon. Magistrate Alex Ithuku with two counts of unlawfully acquisition of public property and conflict of interest.
The charge, under the anti corruption and economic crimes act 2003 and public procurement and asset disposal act 2015, involved Ksh 3 million tenders awarded to Chilongola Holdings Ltd and Rome investment (K) limited associated to him.
Mbito is accused of harbouring direct private interest in the tenders despite being Kwale county government head of the treasury.
The accused allegedly committed the offenses between July 2018 and June 2019 within Kwale county in the Republic of Kenya.
He denied the two charges and was released on Ksh 1 million bond and one surety with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 300,000.
The matter being prosecuted by Senior Assistant DPP Peter Kiprop and Prosecution Counsel Yassir Mohamed and Victor Simbi is set for pre-trial on 12 March 2024.
At the same time, the court issued summons to an accountant and hospital administrator to face similar corruption related charges.
Peter Midas Wachenge Mwandoe- an accountant and Suleiman Mazera Mtende- hospital administrator are faced with three charges of deceiving principal, engaging in fraudulent practice and uttering a false document.
Hon. Ithuku directed them to appear in court on 12 March 2024 for plea taking.
