Triumphant x-country team returns home after victorious outing in Tunisia

The national Cross country team jetted  back this afternoon  from Hammamet Tunisia after a triumphant outing at the 6th  edition of the  Africa cross country championships last Sunday.

The team bagged 8 medals 4 gold 3 silver and 2 bronze medals

Kenya  won the overall title after asserting their dominance in the  10km senior race titles just like they did in Algeria 4 years ago.

Athletics  Kenya senior vice president Paul Mutwii was happy with the team’s performance attributing it to  good preparations  and team work strategy.

Vincent Langat and Cynthia Chepngeno led Kenya to a 1-2 Podium sweep in the  10km senior races while Gideon Kiplangat bagged  another gold in the 8km under 20 race.

Kenya also carried the day in the mixed relay team.

Vincent Langat  winner 10km,Cynthia Chepngeno  winner 10km , Joash Ruto ensured another Gold medal  for Kenya in the 8km under 20 race while Titus Kiprotich bagged the bronze.

The championships was last held in 2018 in Chlef Algeria  before the calendar was disrupted by the Covid 19 pandemic.

Meanwhile trials for the World Cross country championships will be held at the Prison staff training college in Ruiru and will be open to all athletes.
