DP Rigathi opens global consumers congress

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to lead  government delegation for the Consumers International Global Congress which kicks off today in Nairobi today.

The Global Congress which is held every four years brings together the consumer movement with leading influencers from across business, civil society and academia to in order to tackle pressing global issues and protect consumers worldwide.

According to the organisers, the Global Congress is also a pivotal event for those committed to improving the lives of consumers.

The congress is being held at a time the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) says it has taken major steps geared towards consumer protection in the country especially in the financial sector.

“Some of our past interventions such as ensuring fees and charge transparency in digital financial services for transactions conducted through the mobile phone have positively impacted over 20 Million Kenyans. Other key interventions have also been in the areas of microfinance, telecommunications, fast-moving consumer goods, among others,” said Shaka Kariuki, CAK Chairman.

The event brings together marketplace actors to understand the lived experience of consumers in and outside of crises and build a resilient future for people and planet.
