Baringo: Suspected bandit arrested as police recover one firearm

Police in Baringo have arrested a suspected bandit in Kapedo Akoret, Tiaty Sub-County and recovered two guns and 15 rounds of ammunition. 

According to police in the region, Lonyangapat Amerinyang’ has been on their radar for the last four years and they suspect he is the mastermind of the spate of Banditry in the North Rift Region.

Baringo Police Commandant Julius Kiragu hailed the arrest as a major milestone in the fight against banditry. He said that Amerinyang’ was in possession of two firearms and 15 rounds of ammunition when he was arrested.

The arrest of Lonyangapat brings into three the total number of bandits who have been arrested in Baringo

Baringo County Commissioner Stephen  Kutwa called on the public to continue working with the police to fight banditry. He said that information from the public is crucial in identifying and arresting bandits.

Baringo County has been experiencing a series of Banditry attack with the latest one being yesterday where one Kenya Police Reservist was seriously injured at Ng’aratuko area of Baringo North.

The arrest of Amerinyang’ comes as the government intensifies its efforts to fight banditry in the North Rift region.
