Ambassador António Tete has described Angola’s invitation to Kenya’s 60th Mashujaa Day as the start of a new dawn.

Speaking on behalf of Excellency João Lourenço, the President of the Republic of Angola, Ambassador Tete said the event evoked memories since 1975, when the last Angolan leader visited the country.

“We are starting a new dawn in the relationship with Angola in Kenya. We are having the first official visit by an Angolan President since 1975,” Ambassador Tete said.

Received by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Thursday, the leaders engaged in a joint commission for cooperation between Kenya and Angola.

According to PCS Mudavadi, the two nations were uniting for a brighter future, strengthening ties in trade, diplomacy, and beyond.

“Together, we’re building a stronger Africa. This landmark moment reaffirms our commitment to fostering collaboration in areas such as agriculture, education, and healthcare. It’s a testament to the shared vision of progress and prosperity that binds us,” Mr. Mudavadi said.

Despite being in the country, President João Lourenço could not make it to the 60th Mashujaa Day Celebrations which he was as the chief guest.

“On behalf of the President, I would first like to convey his apologies. He would have loved to be here but for unforeseen reasons, he could not make it to Kericho but he sent you a warm greeting,” said Ambassador António Tete.

The visiting Angolan Head of State accompanied by Ana Dias Lourenço, the First Lady of the Republic of Angola are set to commence a two-day official State visit with President William Ruto.

“He will be having his state visit tomorrow,” the President Ruto said during his Mashujaa Day speech in Kericho County.
