The MTV Europe Music Awards stylised EMAs have been announced with a number of African artists appearing in numerous categories.

Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” is nominated in two categories – Best Song and Best Collaboration – going against music heavy-weight such as Taylor Swift, Metro Booming, The Weeknd and 21 Savage. The two nods follow the duo’s two wins this year – a win at the VMAs for Best Afrobeat Song and finally earning 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Just like the VMAs, the EMAs have also added a new category this year – Best Afrobeats with Asake, Aya Nakamura, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido and Rema in the running.

Newcomer Libianca and the only East African representative Diamond have been nominated in the Best African Act category with Burna Boy, Asake and Tyler ICU also nominated.

The awards ceremony is due to take place on November 5 at the Paris Nord.
