Femi One advocates for menstrual equity at summit in Nanyuki

The rapper is an advocate for menstrual equity through her foundation One For One.

Award-winning rapper Femi One, through her foundation One For One, attended the inaugural Menstrual Equity Summit in Nanyuki. She was at the event to speak about the role of influencers in ending period shame within the country.

The two-day event hosted in Laikipia County by The Drawing Dreams Initiative and Better4Kenya brought together a remarkable lineup of industry speakers, including Diana Odhiambo, the Gender Equality Advocacy Director for Better4Kenya through the theme “Reimagining and Strengthening Collective Action for Menstrual Equity.”

Femi, an advocate for menstrual equity, spoke about the role of influencers in advocating equitable policies to end period shame and poverty and the importance of involving men and boys in the conversation.

“Together, we can break the stigma surrounding menstruation and create an environment where every girl and woman can thrive without being limited by their periods,” said Femi One. “By joining hands and taking collective action, we can end period poverty and empower girls and women to reach their full potential.”

The summit, which coincided with World Menstrual Hygiene Day was aimed at bringing stakeholders together to share insights, strategies, and best practices to address the pressing issue of period poverty in Kenya and beyond. The event facilitated discussions on policy reforms, innovative solutions, and the importance of collaborative efforts in bringing about lasting change.
