Sports Cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba joined Ministers from across the Commonwealth at the 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting being hosted at Marlborough House in London, United Kingdom.
The gathering is marking 50 years of the Commonwealth Youth Programme.
With 2023 being marked as “Year of Youth” the meeting has brought together 50 Ministers from the 56 Member States of the Commonwealth for a series of discourse and activities on youth empowerment.
The convention is chaired by Jalil Abbas,Pakistani Foreign Minister seeks to seek ways of empowering the young.
“The meeting is themed “Aiming Higher: Delivering more for young people in the Commonwealth”, reads the communique.
Among the crosscutting issues for discussion include National Youth Policies and legislation for the creation of enabling environment that promote youth engagement and empowerment at social,
economic and political levels, youth employment and economic opportunities, environmental sustainability to ensure young people are actively engaged in
environmental conservation and promoting climate change adaptation, among others.
The structure and roles of national youth councils formed the talk as well.
Ababu reitarated the governments commitment saying his ministry was implementating programmes geared at utilizing the potential of the youth.
The Sports Cs is also using the club forum to update Commonwealth members on upcoming programmes by the kenyan government geared at harnessing the youth potential. He is set to update the forum on the forthcoming Kenya National Innovation Week-Commonwealth Edition slated for November 2023, and to share information on the YouthConnekt Africa Summit that Kenya is hosting on 8-13 December this year with the theme “Youth Innovating a Borderless African Renaissance”.
“Ababu has taken time to meet Commonwealth Secretary General Baroness Patricia Scotland and his Rwandese and Ghanian counterparts, who are key partners for these two major events Kenya is hosting.CS Ababu is accompanied to the meeting by Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK, Amb. Manoah Esipisu and Hon Hillary Kosgey from the Parliamentary Committee responsible for Youth Affairs”, the communique states.
