Philipines, here we come!

In a recent development for Kenyan travellers, the Philippines has opened its doors for holidaymakers from Kenya to visit for up to 30 days visa-free.

Kenyan travellers require a valid passport that extends for at least six months beyond their intended stay, copies of yellow fever and COVID-19 vaccination certificates. Travellers to the Philippines are also required to furnish proof of confirmed accommodation for the entirety of their stay and provide documentation of return travel to Kenya or an onward destination.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, around 800 Kenyans, including 100 students, were residing in the Philippines as of 2020.

Spanning approximately 298,170 square kilometres (115,124 square miles), the Philippines presents a contrast to Kenya with the country being 90.88% larger than the Philippines.

Remarkably, as of August 2023, the population of the Philippines surpasses that of Kenya by 56,569,859 individuals. The official languages in the Philippines are Filipino and English.

The Philippines gained traction as a sought-after travel destination in Asia, attracting a growing number of Kenyan tourists and students alike.

For Kenyan citizens wishing to extend their stay beyond the initial 30 days, an extension can be secured by applying at the Immigration Offices in the Philippines at a fee.

Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua was privileged to welcome Marie Charlotte Tang, the Philippines Ambassador to Kenya, during her courtesy visit to his office in Nairobi on February 14, 2023, strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
