Mai Mahiu floods tragedy: 76 missing as search enters second day

Search and rescue operations for victims of the Mai Mahiu floods tragedy entered the second day with 76 people reported missing.

48 people died after walls of a gulley filled with water burst sweeping away homes Sunday night following ongoing heavy rains.

The Kenya Red Cross has set up a desk at a local school to help families find lost loved ones. So far 110 people have been rescued.

According to residents, at least 16 homes were swept away in the area.

Approximately 250 people are being hosted at Ngeya Girls Secondary School, where they have been provided with essential items, courtesy of the National and County Government of Nakuru and partners.

“The Kenya Red Cross continues its search, rescue, and retrieval efforts, along with providing psychosocial support services to the affected families,” said the humanitarian organisation.
