Over 23,000 runners are expected to participate in this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon scheduled 27th October 2024.
According to Peter Gitau, the chairperson local organizing committee, this year’s race is expected to bring together the largest number of runners ever since its inception over two decades ago.
Speaking at Tatu City in Ruiru, Kiambu County during the official warm-up run ahead of the main event, Gitau revealed that this year’s marathon seeks to raise Sh 46 million which will go towards the race’s initiative.
‘’The main event will be in Nairobi at Uhuru Gardens.We expect to have several categories including the 42km,21km,10km and family 5km fun run.We are very exited because we are looking at registering over 23,000 participants’’, remarked Gitau
During the warm-up run event, runners participated in 5km, 10km, and 21km races.
Solomon Mahinda, the Executive Vice President, Tatu City revealed that such warm-up runs are helpful to the runners who are preparing for the race.
‘’We not only work with the community together but we also relate with the values of the standard chartered marathon.We sponsor the winner of last year’s 21km women winner whom we have sponsored for the last five years.One day she will win a amjor marathon’’, Makinda opined
Winners in several categories at the warm run received cash prizes.
