Security has been beefed up in Kericho town ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations to be held at the Kericho Green Stadium on Friday.
Speaking to KBC Channel 1, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr Abid Hassan said at least 10,000 guests are expected to attend the celebrations.
“The gates will be opened by 3.00am on Friday and all guests are requested to be seated by 7.00am. We have also intensified patrols and surveillance to ensure the county is secure to host the celebrations,” said Hassan.
In addition, section of roads leading to Kericho town will be closed from Thursday 5PM to Friday 5AM for the purposes of ensuring that preparations within the CBD are finalized. Motorists from Bomet, Litein, Kisii, Kisumu will be diverted to other roads.
The Regional Commissioner urged motorists to comply with traffic police officers who will provide alternative routes to ensure road users are not inconvenienced.
Roads leading to the stadium have also been expanded for ease of traffic. The County Commissioner’s residence has also been reconstructed to host the garden party after the celebrations.
Guests using air transport will land at the Kerenga airstrip.
This year’s Mashujaa Day is being celebrated under the theme of Universal Health Care (UHC).
